 Instructions

Step 1:Preheat the oven to 350° F (180º C). Line a square baking pan (9×9 inches) with parchment paper and lightly spray with baking spray. Set aside.
Step 2:Melt butter and sugar in a large saucepan over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Whisk in the cocoa and stir to combine. Remove from heat. Set aside and allow mixture to cool slightly.
Step 3:In a mixing bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons water, 2 teaspoons baking powder and 1 teaspoon oil and mix well. Add buttermilk, applesauce, vanilla and food coloring and whisk to combine.
Step 4:Stir the cocoa mixture into the buttermilk mixture. Add flour, remaining teaspoon of baking powder and salt and whisk to combine. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
Step 5:Bake brownies for 35 to 40 minutes, until set and a toothpick inserted in the center shows just a few moist crumbs. Let cool completely before frosting and cutting the cake.

Make the glaze:

Step 1:Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy. Add powdered sugar; beat until everything is combined. Add melted white chocolate and continue beating until incorporated.
Step 2:Remove the brownies from the pan. Spread the glaze over the brownies. Garnish with white chocolate curls if desired (see notes). Cut into 9 large squares and serve.
