Beat the Heat with This Easy and Delicious Dole Whip Recipe
Look no further than Dole Whip! This creamy and fruity dessert has been a fan favorite for decades, and it’s easy to see why.
What is Dole Whip?
Dole Whip is a non-dairy soft serve dessert that was first introduced by the Dole Food Company in 1986. It is made from a blend of sugar, water, and various fruit flavors, such as pineapple, mango, and strawberry. Dole Whip has a smooth and creamy texture that is similar to ice cream, but it is lighter and less fattening.
History of Dole Whip
Dole Whip has a rich history that dates back to the 1940s when the Dole Food Company first began experimenting with frozen fruit juice. The company’s founder, James Dole, was looking for a way to use up excess pineapple juice that was left over from the company’s canning process. He worked with his team to develop a frozen treat that would be both refreshing and delicious, and thus, Dole Whip was born.
Ingredients:
- 1 large frozen pineapple (diced)
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
Step-1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
Step-2. In a blender, puree the diced pineapple until smooth.
Step-3. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the pineapple puree, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt. Stir until the mixture starts to bubble.
Step-4. Reduce the heat to low and gently simmer until the mixture has thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
Step-5. Remove from the heat and stir in the olive oil and vanilla extract.
Step-6. Transfer the mixture to a 9-inch pie plate and spread out evenly.
Step-7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden.
Step-8. Let cool completely before serving.
Dole Whip Flavors and Variations
While the original Dole Whip flavor is pineapple, there are now a variety of flavors and variations to choose from. Some popular flavors include mango, strawberry, and raspberry. Additionally, there are alcoholic versions available for adults looking for a boozy twist on this classic treat.
In recent years, Dole Whip has also become available in other forms, such as Dole Whip floats (where the soft serve is served in a cup of juice), and as a topping for other desserts like waffles and donuts.
Enjoy! 😊
