How To Make The Best Caramel Apples?
This wonderful recipe for caramel apples was given to me by a close friend when I was first looking for a recipe for homemade caramel apples. My family and friends loved these delicious treats! Sprinkle the apples with nuts or whatever you like while the caramel is still warm, but work quickly as the caramel sets very quickly.

Ingredients
- 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 1 cup butter
- 8 large tart apples
- 8 wooden chopsticks for handles
- 2 cups packed brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Directions
Step 1:Bring a large saucepan of water to the boil. Dip the apples into the boiling water with a slotted spoon for a few seconds, then pat dry with paper towels to remove the wax from the skins. Set the apples aside to cool completely (about 30 minutes).
Step 2:Insert a chopstick through the core in the bottom of each cooled apple to make a handle.
Step 3:Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
Step 4:Combine brown sugar, sweetened condensed milk, corn syrup and butter in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, then reduce heat to medium. Cook, stirring constantly, until a candy thermometer reads 248 degrees F (120 degrees C), about 25 to 30 minutes. A teaspoon of caramel dropped into a glass of cold water should form a firm ball. Remove the caramel from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
Step 5:Dip each apple briskly into the hot caramel so that the apple and the wooden stem are completely covered. Sprinkle the apples with the desired toppings while they are still hot. Leave the caramel apples to cool on the prepared baking tray for about 1 hour. Be careful, the caramel is very hot.
