Potica is made with yeast dough and a variety of fillings, such as walnuts, poppy seeds, pumpkin, and cheese. The dough is rolled with the filling and baked until golden brown.

Ingredients of Potica

  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 packages active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup raisins

How to Make Potica :

Step-1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, salt, sugar, and nutmeg.
Step-2. In a separate bowl, mix together the warm water and olive oil.
Step-3. Slowly add the oil mixture to the flour mixture while stirring with a wooden spoon until a dough forms.
Step-4. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth.
Step-5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
Step-6. Punch down the dough and turn it onto a lightly floured surface. Roll the dough out into a rectangle about 12 inches wide by 18 inches long.
Step-7. Spread the softened butter over the dough and sprinkle with the cinnamon and raisins.

Step-8. Roll the dough up into a log shape, tucking in the ends. Place the log in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
Step-9. Beat the eggs in a small bowl and brush over the log.
Step-10. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step-11. Bake the potica for 30 to 35 minutes, or until golden brown.
